Nose Work Workshops

Workshops are structured to make learning safe, fun and stress-free. You'll learn how to use your natural curiosity and intuition to engage with and learn from your dog. Find out how to ask the right questions from your dog's perspective, pick up on when your dog is communicating to you, and get a better read on the environment around you. You'll walk away with a solid set of techniques and the confidence to use them in your daily life.

All types of learners are welcome. If you have any questions or specific needs, please contact me.

Workshops are scheduled at different venues throughout Southeast Wisconsin.

Inspired by working detection dogs, K9 Nose Work® is a fun search and scenting activity for virtually all dogs and people. This easy to learn activity and sport builds confidence and focus for many dogs and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise.

K9 Nose Work® starts with getting your dog excited about using his nose to seek out a favorite toy or treat reward hidden in one of several boxes, expanding the game to entire rooms, exterior areas, and vehicles. As your dog grows more confident with his nose, additional challenges are set-up. With continued training, target odors are introduced, and competition skills are taught.

Dogs are introduced to the game through the use of boxes and a favorite toy or treat reward. Handlers get to learn the most effective methods for motivating their dogs to search independently.

Each dog works individually, and rests safely in his crate between turns. There should be no interaction or socialization between dogs at any time during K9 Nose Work® events. This is to ensure that every dog has the opportunity to work and gain confidence in a distraction and stress-free environment.

This introductory workshop is for dogs and handlers looking to enjoy the game of K9 Nose Work®, and for dogs who are not already trained on competition target odors. Adjustments to the difficulty level will be made for each dog to keep the dog challenged and engaged.
